October 13, 2008 - Most fighting game fans have been eagerly awaiting Street Fighter 4, Capcom's upcoming brawler, but could the company be getting ready to release another one of its acclaimed fighters for the PS3 and 360? According to a number of internet sites, eager fans that searched the ESRB Ratings site pulled up a new, previously unannounced listing for Marvel Vs. Capcom 2.
Rated T for Teen and listed as containing Blood, Suggestive Themes and Violence, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 would supposedly be released for PlayStation 2, Xbox, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The 360 and PS3 versions would presumably be downloadable titles, while the PS2 and Xbox versions would be retail games. This new rating was supposedly supported by additional screens from PartnerNet, the 360 development servers, which listed Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 as a title in the Xbox Arcade with a PEGI classification of 3+, although the descriptor text of the game was missing.
We contacted Capcom about the possibility of Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 being released and were told that the company had no comment about the title. However, a recent check of the ESRB ratings site no longer displays the Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 information. Whether it's still a possibility of coming out, wishful thinking and Photoshop work on the part of fans, or a mistake by ESRB database operators is yet to be known at this time.
